artsnow vs zazzle

So i decided to save a few bucks and bought some greeting cards that I created on artsnow. I thought, "what the heck, much cheaper and I'm sure there pretty much the same thing". I figured I could sell them on my crafts site.

Boy was I wrong. The color stinks, the paper stinks. Compared to the zazzle cards, there is no comparison. I will not be selling them, maybe Ill use them for a 'thank you' note, but other then that, they were pretty much trashed. My printer could of actually done a better job, at least the colors would of been closer (I tried)

At least I didnt spend a lot, but I wont be buying my cards at artsnow.

So, just a heads up when people think that at least the cards are too much money, as the old saying goes, 'you get what you pay for'

Im at it again. Instead of feebay, ive decided to try ebid. I love the look of the site and the folks there are so nice. You should read some of the ebay forums. Some people are just right down nasty.

I could be missing something, but I just dont know why when someone asks a question, some people just say the meanest things and then laugh.

So far i have no witness this on ebid. So im hoping for the best.

wow, a whole buck twenty

So as most know, I started on ebay. Ive been listing my products and selling quite a few of them.

So im buying boxes, bubble wrap, tape, and driving to the post office and shipping away.

Well, I decided to sit down and do the math to try to figure out with the fees of ebay, the fees from paypal, the fees for shipping and the shipping supplies.

Guess what folks, I made $1.20...lol.

I almost fell off my chair laughing. I am too nervous to figure out how much the gas was to go to the post office quite a few times because I know my 1.20 will slowly disappear.

So, know what?

I am amazed that some people sell stuff for .99, how in the world do they make any money.

So, I think I have to higher my prices. Which stinks but I refuse to do all that work for a mere 1.20.

Well, I am now an official seller on 'by these hands', I am really excited about it and its something I can afford. They were running a special. Plus, I love the layout of the store, I think its so simple looking.

OK folks, I cant stand my new job. I get paid double the money, but I hate it. My boss is a horror show, her whole life is devoted to this job and well, to be quite honest, my family is my priorty and will always be.

I did not realize how much of my time this job needs. I am currently working about 60 hours a week.

I was so much happier at my past job, the money sucked, but I really like it.

So, though I enjoy the extra cash, I really really do, I am not really happy. I am too exhausted to do much of anything when I get home.

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Yum Yum Yum,
Here is one of our favorite recipes for sweet dinner rolls. Ingredients

* 1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
* 1/2 cup warm milk
* 1 egg
* 1/3 cup butter, softened
* 1/3 cup white sugar
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
* 1/4 cup butter, softened

Directions

1. Place water, milk, egg, 1/3 cup butter, sugar, salt, flour and yeast in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select Dough/Knead and First Rise Cycle; press Start.
2. When cycle finishes, turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a 12 inch circle, spread 1/4 cup softened butter over entire round. Cut each circle into 8 wedges. Roll wedges starting at wide end; roll gently but tightly. Place point side down on ungreased cookie sheet. Cover with clean kitchen towel and put in a warm place, let rise 1 hour. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
3. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden.

oh, This dough makes wonderful dinner rolls but can also be used to make cinnamon rolls. Mixing it in your bread machine but bake the rolls in the oven. They're light, soft and sweet. Like I said, yum yum good

I actually hate to be caught off guard so I actually have a shelf in my linen closet for cards. I usually get the ones that aren't very specific.

Guilty as charged

Well, I caved. I was at the grocery store the other day and I had about 11 items and those 'self check-out' lanes had no people. I don't like them for a number of reasons; one being the most important is that they take away someone's job. Plus, they scare me. But I used it anyway, guilty as charged.

I have had experienced a PTSD moment when I have used them in the past. My first time using them was not by choice, it was by a young man who led me to it. He was so angelic looking, leading me to an empty line away from the crowds of people. Oh, I'm sure he meant no harm, but when I got there, he also led about 6 other people there.

Me first. So I started scanning and I was going real slowly as to not make any mistakes as the people in line looked on in hope that I would hurry up. secretly you can see them cheering me on in hope that the red flashing light never flashed and that voice, oh that dreaded voice "Please stand by, help is on its way" would pop up.

Remember that angelic looking young man, well, he turned out to be a meany. I did get the flashing light and I did get that horrible voice, and he was not at all happy to leave his post to help me.

He started to give me the evil eye, you know, that nasty look that you get of disapproval. He was probably mad at himself for leading me to the promised land of fast service, but little did he know, that I have avoided these things for a good reason.

So there I was, with all my goodies and everyone in line hating me. Yep, I said it, HATED me. They all had the look. I felt like yelling "it’s not my fault, he was the one who brought me here", but that stupid voice kept coming through that darn machine. No matter what I scanned "please stand by, help is on its way" I avoided all eye contact at that moment with my fellow shoppers. They were secretly throwing knives at me. Thank God I couldn't read their minds.

So I got out of the store realizing that if I just stayed in my original line and dealt with a breathing human being I would have been out quicker plus all those people wouldn't hate me. But as I try to convince myself "I'll never see them again", isn’t always the case.

So since that horrible moment in time, I have avoided those things like the plague. Every time I see one, I go into some sort of anxiety attack.

Now, this anxiety I get is not new to me and this whole 'we-don’t-want-to-pay-someone-to-work' concept and not new. The telephone has been doing it for a while.

Just last I was calling my doctors office and I had to go through this whole animated voice mail thingy.

The reason I bring up my doctors, because I couldn’t spell his last name because you needed to be able to spell it to get to his voice mail, and God forbid if you didn’t know how to spell it, you would end up in some foreign country in a language you never heard before.

So, that's what made me thought of this post, because during my medical appointment, which I would of canceled If I could spell his name, but I wasn’t about to be charged for an appt that I couldn’t make, so I went.

So there I was waiting in my doctors office, whose name I can never pronounce, That just reminded me that I have to switch my doctor to a name I can pronounce, but I digress, I was reading an article in some magazine, which I never heard of btw, the article suggested, that in a few years, all these cashiers will be replaced with these self checkout machines to save time and money. While reading this, I started to notice my hands actually started to sweat. My fears started to come true, I read it there, in black and white. My can feel my anxiety level rise.

Then my doctor, whose name I can't pronounce, told me my blood pressure was high, and that I needed to watch my salt intake, but as I tried to explain that it's not the salt, its those self help cashiers taking over the world and I'm not ready, Dr. what-cha-name. (Remind myself, must look for a new doctor) said soon you will be able to diagnose your own problem with an ap and you wont need doctors anymore. Gee, thanks, Dr. what-cha-name man.

I can’t even imagine what my life would be like. I mean even 411 are all automated. Jim Croce would be rolling in his grave if he knew that there would be no 'operators' out there for him to talk to in his most vulnerable moments.

I admit here and now, I am missing those people that come up to you in the store and say "can I help you with something?” Of course in those days I would have my auto response "no, I'm just looking, now go away, scat scat and leave me alone".

But what I would give for someone, anyone, to say "can I help you" and really mean it. Lets face it, now that we actually want the help, there is no one even around.

I was shopping the other day in one of those huge department stores. I needed help as I didn't want to be in the store all day. Apparently, customer service is the only people who can help.

So First you have to find the store directory which is usually by the escalators, but you have to find the escalators first, that’s always fun, then once you find them, you find out customer service is on the 3rd floor, so up you go, at least you can just stand there but the fear of being knocked down by some crazy eyed shopper running up the escalator with all her bags, hits you and nearly almost knocks you down. You know who you are, I'm not even going to give you space on my blog.

So you make it up unscaved, you then have to walk around the whole store looking for 'customer service' which it's usually tucked in the back somewhere, and then upon arriving you have to stand in a line, you know the kind, which I like to call 'the snake'. You see, returning items seem to be a favorite past time now, everyone is returning. Yea, I see you there lady, the one who nearly knocked me over on the escalator apparently to beat me and who ever else on the customer service line. Aren’t you just proud of yourself?

So after 30 minutes on the 'snake', and giving the evil eye to the lady with the bags (I can do it too you know) I ask where I can find cooling racks. Here is the response I got.

"Go to the 2nd floor, in ‘home goods', in the baking section, and it should be there, if its not there, then we don't have any"

Me, "uh, if there is none, when will you be expecting them?"

Her "like I said, if we have them, that's where they would be, you have to check"

Me "uh, I have to ask, but do you even sell them?"

Her "I don't know, I work in customer service, you may have to ask someone in home goods which is on the second floor, as you can see, I work on the third floor, NEXT!!!!!".

So I walked away, no closer to getting my cooling racks then when I walked in the store. .

Long story short, I couldn't find my cooling racks, I did look, but I also couldn’t find someone in home goods to help me.

But I did find these cute heart shaped valentine bake pans. The only problem was, I didn't know how much they cost. But at the end of the aisle, in neon lights, was this little machine attached to the wall where I can scan my item and it tells me exactly how much it cost.

At that moment, I realized, I didn’t have to wait on another line to find out how much those heart shaped baking pans costs while I decide if I was going to buy them with everyone looking at me with evil eyes while I decided. . Plus, there is no guarantee if the cashier would even know what the cost would be I can see it now, " Jeffery, can you go to the home goods department and get me another heart shaped baking pan, it seems they got one with NO price tag on it!", Evil eyes, here they come. Not this time mister, I know exactly how much it costs

So, how do I feel about these' do it your self' checkouts? Well, I really hate the fact that someone is out of a job. But I also realize that this is our future. I read it in that 'no name magazine' in my doctors office whose name I cant pronounce, never alone spell. I just have to get use to it.

Would I prefer a human being, absolutely? No doubt about it. But I think those machines are here to stay.

But you know what, you know what I really think should happen, is the least they can do, is that the machine can at least say "oppps our fault, not yours" so your not on everyone’s hit list.

Ok, now off to find a doctor named Smith.

Just to be grateful

Love will immediately enter into any mind that truly wants it.

After two days off due to the snow, it's time to go back to work. Ive been working with homeless drug addicts families. Yep, you heard that right, families. Its very much of a challenge as they feed off of each other, plus, when you put their children is the mix, it gets even harder.

We have two new born babies in the hospital that are now withdrawing from methodone. The whole thing is so sad, but at least the mothers stayed off the drugs while she was pregnant.

There are so many things to be grateful for these days. I have to keep that up front when I try to help these people.

the other day I had two men complaining that they have to shovel the walkway (not the driveway) but the walkway. They felt that the 'program' should do it.

I just looked at them and asked how much do they pay for rent and/or condo fees that would allow the 'program' to hire someone. They pay nothing to be there.

One of them stated "well, my welfare check is cut because I live here so I am paying".

I just looked at him and stated "where does 'welfare' come from, where do you think that money comes from? uh, that would be me".

Then I stated, "look down the street, you see those developmentally challenged people shoveling their snow? They aren't complaining"

I try so hard not to be judgemental, and working with this population makes it hard. But when one family makes it, or one person makes it and changes their lives, then wasn't it all worth it?

Ive been working with this population for 16 years, I am looking to change. I went on a job interview and they called me again for a second. I met the clients that I will be working, a mentally ill population. The interviews went great, she said she will call me by the end of last week. She did call my references. I havnt heard anything yet, so I'm now on the fence of if I should call her. I know she stated she had 6 people she was interviewing.

I am a big fan of folk music, but there are some songs that just touch my heart more deeply then others. The ones that have that Appalachian feel to them just really get to me. Todd Baio puts his own style on this old folk song, 'Lonesome traveler', which I believe was written by Lee Hayes, but don't quote me on that. I love the smooth richness of his voice and the simplicity of just the guitar.

I guess things could be worse. In 10 minutes I will have to deal with the yelling as I try to pry him away. But for now, quiet.

Broccoli Casserole

Straight from the Quaker Kitchen...lol. Ok, not really 'Quaker', i just like to say it. Here is a tasty broccoli casserole. Its very very easy to make and though it's not the healthist way to eat broccoli, I got my kids to eat them.

So here you go.

Broccoli Casserole

2 c. broccoli or 1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen
1/4 lb. Velveeta cheese
4 tbsp. butter or margarine
12 butter crackers, crumbled

First Cook and drain the broccoli. Melt the cheese and half of the butter. Then Mix it with the broccoli. Place in greased baking dish. Melt remaining butter and mix with crumbled crackers. Sprinkle crumbs on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Serves 3-4.

As a seeker, I often at times wonder what the heck am I actually seeking for. Do I seek the truth, or do I seek other seekers?

Or am I merely seeking the word of God?

I was at meeting yesterday when these thoughts popped into my little brain. What is it do I seek? When I look at my life it is not so much about seeking but more about changing, looking at myself and the walls that I have built as for fear of being hurt.

Where did these walls come from? Why do these barriers enter into my heart when I know that I am capable of letting Gods love through the human spirit day after day.

I always considered myself an open person, but yet I shy away from people that I am not that familiar with? I wonder what my barrier is, what can I possible be afraid of? It does feel like fear.

Maybe I have it all wrong and what I have been seeking has been with me the whole time, trust.

well guys, I am offically fried. I have been opening shops on zazzle, zibbett, esty, bonzale, artsnow and started my own websites. Even tried ebay for a tad.

I just cant keep going. I have decided to close up shop.

The reality is, on all the hard work I did, the only site that actually brought in the bucks was zazzle.

So I have decided to close all other shops. Its just not worth the energy.

By trying to promote a ton of shops, if I put all my energy into the zazzle shops, then who knows what can happen.

The reality is, promoting sucks, and thats why i joined these other sites thinking I can get past all the bull shit, but you know what, you just cant. There are no shortcuts.

So, by the end of January, I will have closed up shop.

Now, I also used artsnow for products, as the old saying goes, 'you get what youu pay for', i decided to order some products that I have created and when I got them delievered, I just couldn't believe how cheap they were, so I will no longer be using their service anymore.

So there you go folks, by the end of Januray, all stores will be closed except for zazzle.

Oh, how I love the holidays. Here is one of our favorite traditions that we do in our house, and its so much fun for the kids too.

You got it: Roasting nuts and it is really easy. You can either dry roast or roast them in a little oil to enhance their flavor if you like.

To Dry Roast just follow the instructions below for Roasting Nuts omitting the oil.

To Roast Nuts: Coat 1 cup of nuts evenly with 1 t.of cooking oil. On a baking pan spread the nuts evenly and place them into a preheated oven at 350° F. Stir occasionally til the nuts are fragrant and lightly browned (5-10 minutes). Be careful because the nuts will continue to cook after removed from the oven. DO NOT OVERCOOK.

Cool on paper towel. Sprinkle with salt and enjoy.

To Toast nuts, place them in a heavy skillet on top the stove. Heat slowly over low heat, shaking the pan like you would for popcorn. Cook until slightly browned and smelling terrific. Takes about 10-15 min.

ok, how easy was that? So go ahead, try it and have fun.

Horses Horses Horses!!! I dont know if anyone ever saw the movie 'sleepless in seattel' but it one of my all time favorite movies. What does this have to do with horses, absoutly nothing except when Meg Ryan was driving in the snow listening to delia and a song was on the radio and it sang 'horses horses horses'

ok, i love horses. People in my area where I live in New England have horses and it really gives me this peaceful feeling when I drive by these open areas and watch the horses graze in the field. I actually have taken my own photo's but not as beautiful as these photos.

When I came upon GoodLifeDesigns shop at zazzle, i was taken back by the close ups of these gentle animals.

The interesting thing about GoodLifeDesigns shop is that its not just about horses, there is a wide selection of different things to buy. But being a fan of horses, I had to show case these beautiful photos as I am sure you can understand why.

One of the things about me is that I am big on celebrating diversity. I believe that God has created everyone equeal. there is no us and them, black and white, gay and straight, christian and jew. We are all the same in Gods eyes with our own unique ways which we should celebrate not hide.

captureKC's shop is what i felt when entering in it. She talks about "capturing the beauty within creation, gift the inspiration!" Her hope is to inspire people with beautiful quotes, her gorgeous photography, and her digital images that will bring a smile to anyone face who views them. She states that "there is beauty in everything, we simply just don't look hard enough most times to see it."

Truth is, how can anyone argue with that. We go about our daily lives and once in a while, when we slow down enough, we can actually 'smell the roses'. I think if all of us, at least once a day, just stops for a quick moment and jsut looks around to see all the beauty that surronds us, we would all have so many things to be grateful and all the beauty that each of us really has, regardless of our differences. We look at what we have in common, not what seperates us.

captureKC's site is just that, all she wants is to share the beauty that she has captured (through words, nature, songs, praise, etc) that's all around her with others and she hopes that even if its just for a moment that when you visit her shop, she somehow brightens all our days.

I have to admit, this is one of my favorite names of a shop. It basically sums up my life.

Now with that said, as i was looking for the what I think are some of the best designs on zazzle, I gazed outside and it is pouring out here. Thank God it isnt snow, but then I got to thinking that the cold days of December are actually upon us.

Low and behold I came across these designs by runinragged and they brought a smile to my face.

They actually seemed to tell a story.

The fist one is of a sweet little blue bird that just sits in her nest on a little tree that looks like it just bloomed. The little bird look like she is waiting for something.

Then the second design, kind of completed the first where it appears her mat comes home and pics one of the pink bloosoms.

OK, again, its just imagination. Winter hasn't even officially started and I'm hoping for spring already.

every once in a while i just start spreading myself to thin. For folks who sell their products on line get glued to their computer screen around this time of year. So we work and work and hopefully it will pay off.

Well, cyber monday has come and gone It was actually worse then last year. I checked with the other folks and they too have had bad problems with cyber monday.

Im hoping things pick up some. I actually joined project wonderful to take out some ads. I never really paid for advertising, so im a little nervous how this all works.

First off, i dont even understand the language all that well, but I just keep reading and reading.

I'll keep you all posted.

I am actually thinking of starting to promote other great designers on my blog. They are all so talented.

So there you go, i will keep you all updated to see if paid ads actually bring in the big bucks. Not in my lifetime anyway..lol

alright folks, you asked. Now please leave me alone...lol. (kidding)

This post goes out to my real life friends, co-workers and family.

The question I get asked often, "how do you make money on zazzle?"

Well, This is where It all begins:

Thats right folks, markers. But not just any kind of markers, oh no, the water color kind.

and don't forget the piece of 'white' watercolor paper. You don't need to be fancy here, I also have used 'white' cardstock because it's a little smoother, and it depends on the image that I want. Oh, and it's a lot cheaper.

I hardly ever use 'watercolor from a tube' anymore unless I am making a painting. Oh how I love those modern day conviences. Plus, no mess. How can you beat that? You will have your work area cleaned up in a second. woo hoo!

now for the doodles, (drawings) well,here you go folks.

Lets do something easy.

I first take a pencil and lightly make my doodle. Then I take a 'thin tip' black sharpie and trace where I want the black outline to stand out. (Got to love the sharpies)

From there, then it's easy, I just color it with my water color pens. (practice with the pens first before you use good paper). The reason I mention practice, is because when you are working with something fluid, it has a tendency to go where it wants. You will get the hang of it in no time.

Now for the different shades of color, i just add little drops of water and take a very clean paintbrush and push the water around. Again, you really need to practice with it.

OK, now that you have your image, whats next?

I just scan the darn thing in the computer. Once its scanned, I then may or may not play around with it in photoshop, but I save it as a png file so I can get the 'white' around it transparent. Sometimes I actually have to go into the image and erase the 'color' where I want it to be totally white. It all depends on the 'texture' of the paper and what shows up with the scan.

Then you have your image. It's not to hard. I am sure the 'masters' have an easier way to do this, but this is how I learned.

ok, now on to Zazzle.

Here is the fun part. You join 'zazzle' and make a store. Then you upload your image to your store and you put it on a lot of different products and then hopefully, fingers crossed, that someone likes it and buys it.

So that's it folks. I'm not a computer genius, and I'm sure some are reading this thinking, "oh boy, I can do it a different easier way", but for me, Im still pen and paper and my little scanner.

That's pretty much it folks. Oh, the drawing, you can download it, and use it for your own personal use, but do not use it for commercial use please. I gave you the steps to make your own. So Make your own Gosh Darn It!

Ever get one of those wow moments. Well, I was looking at my Stat Counter to see if any new visitors came to my website.

Well, WOW! I had quite a few and was wondering where they all came from. Apparently they came from another website.

So I clicked on the website http://www.adoptioniguide.com/Home.aspx and saw it was an adoption website.

Odd I thought. I am an adoptive parent, so how did they know? It kind of freaked me out a little.

Then I clicked on Gifts and Fun and the light bulb went off in my head. The majority of the products are MINE!

At first it felt weird, I kept thinking, wow, someone took a lot of my products, but then I thought, WOW, look at me. An adoption site is promoting my stuff.

Well, I was noticing all these hits from the site and I got to tell you, i was so happy.

So I went to see today if I had as many hits yesterday. No such luck. Why the drop in visits.

durrrrr....another light bulb. These were probably the same person. Chances are the person creating the website, was clicking back and fourth...:(

oh well, sometimes I just hate light bulbs moments. Who ever said 'denial' is a bad thing?

But hey, glass half full, IM still being promoted.
